The best thing since sliced bread.5
First off... be sure your knife block can handle the 10" blade. I had to remove my sharpener (honing steel) in order to fit it in the block. No big deal, but it may be to some. Measure it out, first.
Other than that, the knife is GREAT! I like the feel of the walnut handle, which is nice in an age of plastic handles.
The teeth are spaced a LITTLE wider than my last bread knife, but I don't think it cuts differently. Either way, this knife cuts through even the toughest 3 day-old ciabatta crust with ease.
Don't overspend on your bread knife; if taken care of this will last your lifetime.
10" Serrated Bread Knife4
The knife does an excellent job of cutting through the toughest crusts. The length is especially handy.
The only negative I have is that there should be a warning included with the knife to avoid putting it in the dishwasher. I used the dishwasher and the finish came off the wood handle on the first washing
Fantastic Bread Knife5
This is truly a superb knife in quality and performance!! After reading the customer ratings, I was convinced to try one of these knives for myself. All of the 5 Star Customer Ratings are true!!! This knife excels in performance well above knives that are triple the price and goes beyond all expectations of the higher priced knives. I also found that if you aren't careful, it also cuts fingers too!! I totally agree with a previous customer's comments - "For price and quality, this knife is an absolute STEAL!!!

Handy and versatile5
This is a good, inexpensive and versatile knife that can be used as a spreader and server. I stumbled upon it when I needed an inexpensive item to meet the free shipping requirement.
It's good for cutting soft & leafy vegetables (lettuce, tomato), things that can be cut with sawing motion. It will not cut hard vegetable (carrot) that requires chopping motion.
It's particularly handy for making sandwiches. I can use it to spread the condiment, then slice the tomato or sweet pepper, and cut the sandwich in half at the end with just one knife. It's also great for cake, breads, brownies, etc.
It washes well in the dishwasher. A great buy overall!
Plastic knife.. who knew!5
My boyfriend hates the sound of metal on metal, so when I saw that this knife is recommended for cutting cakes and brownies, it had even more appeal. It cuts lettuce like it is supposed to and so far it does seem like my lettuce hasn't been browning as quickly. It's nice using a knife that won't cut my fingers off either!
Wonderful sturdy lettuce knife5
My husband loves to eat iceberg lettuce salads. I got tired of tearing the lettuce up, so I decided to try this. Not only was the knife bigger than expected, but it's very sturdy and sharp. The grip is also very good for the average cook, but not as good as the grip on the Oxo Good Grips Lettuce Knife.

Great Tool 5
I'm glad to finally have the opportunity to praise the Swiss Champ multi-tool knife in a public forum. It seems like mine has served me reliably for almost 2 decades, mine has literally been around the world with me, and I usually have some use for it almost daily. The tools, for the most part, are practical and functional, though they are nicely compacted into a 3 1/2" package. I do have some "wishes" for improvements, but overall, I just love my Swiss Champ and can overlook the minor faults (I'll mention some later).
The most frequently used tools for me are the SCISSORS (great for anything from paper to personal grooming), the TWEEZERS, and the LARGE SCREWDRIVER/bottle opener (mostly for prying). The small set of PLIERS/wire cutters would seem to be of limited use, but they are made with such precise tolerances that they make excellent, hardy tweezers also. They are handy for gripping small things, bending metal with leverage, holding objects close to a flame, and untying those impossible little knots. One of the best functioning tools IMO is the little SAW! It seems to have a very aggressive and sharp tooth pattern, and will rapidly saw through wood and tree branches better than some full-size hand saws. The LARGE CLIP POINT KNIFE BLADE and the SMALL CLIP POINT KNIFE BLADE come with a scalpel-sharp factory sharpening (I'm not kidding... be very careful). Not enough space here to list all the uses that I've put the blades through over the years, but suffice it to say, it's a good, sharp, cutting instrument. I've never used the FISH SCALER for fish, but it also has a handy metric/english RULER on it, and, I have used the little HOOK DISGORGER prongs on the end as a sort of 2 tined fork! The little MAGNIFYING GLASS is really quite powerful (and replaces my separate field lenses), and on one occasion, I used it to start a fire when I had no matches. The MINI PEN comes in handy occasionally when you have no writing instrument available (and it works decently). Pen refills are inexpensive. Both the LEATHER AWL and the METAL SAW/FILE are useful for crafting and fabrication. When used in a twisting motion, the LEATHER AWL works very effectively in shaving out a perfectly round hole through leather. I have made and repaired clothes, shelter, and other tools with it. The CORKSCREW comes in handy (and works well) when needed, but more importantly, it stores the little MICRO-SCREWDRIVER in it's spiral whorls. There is a small STRAIGHT PIN hidden in the scales behind the corkscrew BTW, useful for splinter removal, magnetized to make a float compass, or in a pinch, to be bent into a fish hook. I use the MICRO-SCREWDRIVER on eyeglasses and small electronic devices, like watches. The CAN OPENER is functional, but you'll get tired of the repetitive motion required to open just one can. But when you're hungry, who cares. Right? I rarely use the PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER or the plastic TOOTHPICK. I have never used the strange looking HOOK thingy(which I'm told is used to carry packages tied with string in Europe), nor the mini-CHISEL, but I know they are there!
If I had to mention the few minor shortcomings of the Swiss Champ, it would be, ironically, with the knife blades. I would merely wish that the MAIN BLADE was locking, a feature that Wenger incorporates, but not Victorinox. Also, the blades are just a tad bit tricky to deploy if you have big fingers or if you just trimmed your fingernails, so I wish it had a raised thumb knob or hole to ease opening. Finally, I thought that having the two clip point blades is redundant. I would wish that one of the blades (perhaps the large one) could be replaced with a blunt, serrated or semi-serrated sheep's foot blade (practical for quick rope cutting or rescue applications). I wish the LARGE SCREWDRIVER/bottle opener was locking also (as it tends to close on you when you are applying pressure to a screw or abusing it to pry something). Though it is not a criticism of the Swiss Champ, Victorinox has made even higher model upgrade Swiss knives (loaded with even more tools!) but I don't think they were vast practical improvements over the Swiss Champ. For example, on some newer models, the interchangeable screwdriver bits are neat, usually require separate carrying of the spare tips. Most of newest improvements involve modifications to the exterior scales (like adding a watch, a compass, USB flash drive, or an LED light). I personally don't like to rely solely on electronic devices that use expendable batteries, nor mix them with my hand tools (due to the ruggedness I require of tools, and chance of breakage for the electronics). And note: a compass does NOT function reliably in proximity to ferrous metal (like a Swiss Army Knife). My final wish is that the plain smooth scales be modified as a practical grip/resource also. My suggestions: 1) make the scales out of hardened checkered rubber for better grip, or some grippy knurled plastic. 2) emboss, engrave or cast some brief practical information on the scales, like the International Morse Alphabet 3) utilize the unused portions of the scales to store more items like small flints, a small magnet, an eyed sewing needle, or a small heliograph (like the one in the Swiss Champ SOS Kit).
I think that whether you are anything from an urban traveler to an outdoor survivalist, you will find that the Swiss Champ will serve you well for decades. There are a couple of multi-tools out there that I might recommend for some enhanced, higher-tech, tool qualities, but the Swiss Champ remains a durable, compact and useful workhorse. It remains one of my most valued possessions.
Get the one without a fish scaler.4
This knife has it all. Well at least one to many things. I.e. fish scaler. Skip this version and get the one without it. When scaling a fish the scales get into the knife and are hard to clean out. Also the plastic lens of the magnifier will scratch over time. The pliers are a bit on the light duty side but handy. On the other hand, having a hole in the leather awl is great as you can actually sew something! The eye glass screw driver works great. The file has teeth on the edge and will cut glass bottles or aluminum. The sizzors are the standard by which all other tool knife sizzors are judged.
5 stars from a GIRL!5
Ok, I know what you're thinking. I'm a girl with a large pocketknife...hmmm. But honestly, I love this thing. Now, I don't use it to saw wood or cut wire fences, but this is very useful for me to have. I don't use this as a "pocket" knife....more or less, it's a "purse" knife. It has gotten me out of quite a few jams in the year that I've owned it. It is always with me, and I'm thinking about buying another one to keep in my car for when I forget it. You never know when you may need this handy tool. It has everything you could possibly need, maybe a little more than I would need, but still, I love it. I also don't have many tools in my home, so when there's a small need for a screwdriver or a small pair of pliers, I just go to my swiss army knife, and it does the job.
Guys, get your girls one - to keep in their cars. They may laugh and think you're crazy for buying them a pocketknife, but what are they going to do if they are in a bind and you're not around with your knife?

Customer Reviews
5 Star Value5
OXO is our favorite brand of kitchen tools and when we found this wonderful collection of practical knives in a gift set we bought one for our house and one for a wedding gift.
There are more expensive knives available but these are well-designed and high quality and an absolute bargain for $100.
All knives are sharp when you buy them, but no knife stays sharp forever. In fact the measure of a good knife is its ability to take and hold an edge after resharpening. OXO PRO Series knives do indeed take and hold an edge after resharpening. The knives are based on OXO's Universal Design concept and feature non-slip, comfort handles. I also like the fact that all OXO products have a no-nonsense satisfaction guarantee.
For the price of this handsome set you could go out and buy one overpriced German or French knife, which will also need resharpening, or you could spend over $1,000 for some fancy knife sets that will not slice tomatoes or bread any better than OXO's knives.
Just think of the $900 saved by going for OXO Pro Knives instead of inflated German cutlery, and use the savings for a ticket for yourself to Europe.
GOOD Knives, GREAT Value5
These are very good knives and an excellent value. Yes, they are stamped, not forged, but they cost much, MUCH less then similar sets of quality forged knives. They arrived razor sharp and have stayed razor sharp with use of the included steel.
And these are indeed QUALITY stamped knives. They have a full length tang which gives them a good, balanced weight that feels nice in your hand. The handles are comfortable and non-slip. In short, they are a pleasure to use.
Top that off with a surprisingly (at this price) high-quality wooden block and I couldn't be more pleased with this set of knives. Like another reviewer, I completed this set (there are 3 empty slots in the block, 2 for additional knives & 1 for poultry shears) with the 6-1/2-Inch Santoku Knife, the 5" Boning Knife and the Poultry Shears. I have been using these knives daily for the last 3 months.
One thing about these knives that I haven't seen any other reviewer mention - they have 15° edge bevels (like most Asian knives) as opposed to 20° bevels (like most German knives). I mention this not as a negative or positive regarding the knives (although some will argue the merits of one vs. the other), but as a "heads up" when using a steel on these knives or buying a sharpener. You need to use a 15° angle against the steel when doing the former & if you buy the latter and want to maintain the 15° bevel (which is a double bevel on these Oxo knives by the way, unlike some high-end Japanese knives which have a single bevel), be sure and order an appropriate sharpener.
Finally, in an attempt to address some criticisms in other reviews and the two questions I saw in one review comment:
1) To maintain a sharp edge, these knives, like all other knives that are not of the "laser ever-sharp" variety, require periodic steeling to realign the edge. I steel a given knife before every 3 or 4 uses (just a few strokes on each side - no biggie) and they are as sharp as new.
2) Oxo recommends hand-washing, which I have done & I have experienced no spotting or discoloration of the knives after 3 months of daily use.
3) The steak knives are smooth-edged, not serrated (and cut a steak very nicely!)
4) These knives cut tomatoes very nicely - I have used both the santoku knife & the 5" serrated utility knife for this task, but I prefer the non-serrated santoku. (The only two serrated knives in this set are the aformentioned 5" utility & the 8" bread knife).
OXO 14 piece knife block set5
These knives are very nice to look at and the wood block does not appear cheap. The knives are razor sharp and have not dulled in the two months we have had them. They have shown no signs of rusting. We hand wash them and towel dry. We were so impressed with the set that we bought three more differently styled knives from OXO.

Cuisinart's electric knife adds a little electricity to any carving or cutting job, providing the extra power a real kitchen commando needs. Its powerful motor combines with two stainless-steel blades (one for carving and one for bread) to make short work of almost every slicing task, whether you're working with a roast, French bread, or vegetables. It has a comfortable ergonomic handle designed to be used by right- or left-handed people, a solid-wood butcher-block storage tray with a safety lock system for storage in a drawer or on the counter, a one-touch pressure-activated on/off trigger control, and space for wrapping the cord. --A.J. Superior Electric Knife5
The Cuisinart CEK-40 Electric Knife is by far the best ever, and I've used three other brands. The knife and blades store securely in the very attractive tray and the attached cord tucks away neatly behind the stand. I especially like the bread knife which works wonderfully on crusty breads. The blades slip easily into the knife handle and are just as easily removed. This is definitely a quality product and well worth the price.
Awesome Knife5
I bought this knife in November after reading the reviews here. I feed my large breed dog a "raw meaty bone" diet and wanted a reliable knife to cut pork shoulders and other large pieces of meat. This knife exceeded my expectations. Worked so great on the Thanksgiving turkey (not for the dog), that I bought three more as Christmas gifts.
It does make a peculiar burning smell for the first hour or so of use, and my wooden knife holder was thrown out after the third use. It rests in the drawer just fine with the other larger utensils.
I highly recommend this knife.

knives and axes?5
eh? You seriously think I'm going to use the same thing to sharpen the Henckels 4 star knives I use to prepare family meals AND the axes I use to chop wood?
Seriously. This sharpener will reset just about any blunted knife or axe to a finely honed edge.
It does just a good a job on a fine filleting knife as it does on my favorte chopping axe - I just have to remember to clean it before I switch uses.
Now if only they made a lawnmower that could julienne vegetables....
A Reasonable Substitute for a Whetstone4
If one really wants to put a razor sharp edge on an axe or knife, a set of diamond whetstones is the best way to do it. This painstaking manual process requires time and proper technique. Beware: a razor sharp edge is exactly that and not to be trifled with. On the other hand, if "pretty darn sharp" is good enough...and it should be for most utility purposes...a dedicated sharpening tool like the Fiskars will get the job done quickly and with minimum risk to one's fingers. There are a number of similar products on the market. This one comes from a reputable manufacturer at a good price point.
Buy This! Not a new Knife!5
I bought my first Fiskar sharpener from the owner of MAC knives. He told me that this was all I needed as a professional chef to keep my knives sharp and in top shape as to angle, knicks, ect.... He was right. Don't pass this up. You really do not need anything else. No kidding and just $12.00. Chef Mark

Great design, well made, reasonably priced!5
I ordered two of these, and just put them up today. After reading other reviews of magnetic knife holders, it's clear that the main complaints are 1) the magnet is either too strong or not strong enough, and 2) some of them are just too flimsy.
This knife holder is perfect in every respect. Both the body and the mounting brackets are made from very heavy-gage stainless steel. It is easy to mount, easy to clean, and the magnet seems to be just the right strength, which is critically important. Either too strong or too weak would be flat-out dangerous!
Figure that the 15-inch model will hold 6 to 8 knives, depending on the size of the knives and how far apart you like them.
Great purchase.5
Contrary to other information you'll find here, this knife bar is not too heavy, nor are the magnets anything but perfectly powered.
The mounting hardware provided will safely mount the holder to any horizontal surface, even drywall. All you need is a drill and a screwdriver. It takes about five minutes.
The magnets are strong, but not too strong. Weak hands can always slide a knife off instead of the brute force horizontal yanking method.
I purchased two of these and mounted them under my cabinets. One wouldn't be large enough to store all of my metallic goodies. In addition to knives and cleavers, I also stick accessories like my peeler on there. The knife bar is so stylish and its stored items so conveniently located that there's no notion of clutter.
These are a must-have for any kitchen.
Incredible asset to kitchen organization5
This item is extremely well built, sturdy and very easily mounted, with easy removal should it be necessary for moving, remodeling, etc. Extremely good with holding lOTS of knives of all sizes. For lack of horizontal space to mount, I had to mount it vertically, and attach knives on an angle - even with this unusual mounting, the knives are held very securely and do not shift or slip. I am VERY pleased with this product.

Amazon.com Review
Keep oft-used cooking knives close at hand without the counter space demands of a knife block with this handy magnetic storage strip from Chicago Cutlery. With 75 years experience crafting fine knives and related kitchen products, Chicago Cutlery understands the importance of proper, and safe, knife storage. The magnetic storage strip can be affixed to any wall for immediate access, whether over a built-in cutting board or close to the oven. While stowing knives in drawers may lead to accidental cuts and scrapes to both user hands and knives while fumbling for a particular blade, the strip keeps knives visible and separate through the attraction between the magnet and the blade’s material. The strip also could hold other metallic kitchen utensils, including whisks, spatulas, stirring spoons and ladles. All hardware accompanies the storage strip for quick and easy installation. Parents with small children may want to mount the storage strip out of reach of children until they are old enough to practice knife safety. The strip is covered by a lifetime guarantee in the event of faulty materials or workmanship. This item weighs one pound upon shipping. --Jessica Reuling

GREAT buy !! 4
Do not purchase a more expensive knife strip.......this one is a fantastic value. The only problem I have with this product, and I do wish I could give 1/2 stars, because I would give it 4.5 stars, is that there are no installation instructions included, but it is fairly simple to install: (it comes with 2 screws which act as tabs, and there are black platic slots on the back, which slide out. Simply mark where the screws will line up and screw them into place, take out one of the tabs, slide one side of the strip onto one of the screws, then slide the tab you took out back into the strip and over the screw "tab". Done.) Still, installation instructions should should have been included. This product holds a 8 inch chef's knife, a 6.5 inch santoku, 2 9 inch slicers, a 9.5 inch bread knife, and about 3 paring knives (about 2.5 inches each) and a serrated tomato slicer (about 4 inches or so). The magnet is very strong and effectively holds the knives in place. This is a much safer method for keeping knives (do NOT store knives in a drawer) and will help to keep them sharper longer. Plus, this is more sanitary than a knife block in my opinion.
So, don't spend more on another knife strip. Get this one, you will not regret it.
Magnetic Knife Storage Strip5
I really like this product, however I don't use it for knives I use it in my sewing room to keep all my scissors at my finger tips! Great product for sewing as well as cooking! The magnetic strip is really strong. I would recommend this product.

Have reasonable expectations5
I own a set of Henckels knives that are several years old. They are used every day and despite regular honing they were becoming dull. Keeping knives razor sharp is a skill that requires some practice and the right kind of sharpener, and so I was skeptical that one of these quick sharpeners would do a good job at sharpening them, but I decided to give it a try.
Does the sharpener make dull knives sharper? It certainly does, in just a few minutes. Does it make them sharp enough for routine use? I would say yes; I am not a professional chef, but I find that I am much happier with the performance of my knives after sharpening. Does it return them to their factory degree of razor sharpness? Unfortunatley, no. I think there is no question that my knives were sharper out of the box than I can achieve with this hand sharpener. But that does not mean that this was a bad purchase. It has restored my knives from being a bit dull to being perfectly adequate for the use they get in my kitchen.
If you want to achieve like-brand-new razor sharpness, this sharpener will not do that for you. If you want to bring your dull knives back to a degree of sharpness that will be adequate for 99% of home cooks, this would be a good item to have.
A Great Sharpener5
This was a gift for my wife who is going to Culinary School and uses Henckel Four Star knives. The two step sharpener works great and is very easy to use. A few strokes in slot 1, then about the same amount of strokes in slot II and the knife is new sharp again. The body of the sharpener is easy to grasp and really feels secure on the table with its rubber feet holding it steady as you run the knife in each of the slots. This sharpener not only works great but also looks great with its stainless steel body and frame.
Finally a sharpener that works5
I am the proud owner of 25 Henckels knives, largely due to a consolidation of two households. I was never able to get a truly sharp edge on these knives, regardless of the sharpeners used and I tried many different gizmos using different sharpening techniques. The latest was the motorized "Chef's Choice" using diamond encrusted wheels and magnetized knife guides for the proper sharpening angle. Doing 25 knives took about two hours at least and the result was usually unremarkable. Actually, the knives remained remarkably dull regardless of the effort expended with this noisy gadget. And then I stumbled across the Twin Sharp Duo Knife Sharpener. Somewhat encouraged by the largely positive customer feedback, I bought one and have never looked back. The process is silent, it takes less than one third of the time compared with the "Chef's Choice" and the results are remarkable. The knives slice through the edge of a sheet of paper with no difficulty, tomato skin is no longer a challenge and carving a side of beef or a turkey is a joy. Pulling the knives through the sharpening ports of the Sharpener at first seems to yield nothing, but after the third or fourth pass the steel or ceramic plates engage the knife and impart an amazing edge. Maybe I am over-reacting because all my previous efforts with other sharpeners were overly time consuming and did not yield good results. This one, however, is different. It actually works! Some have said that the gadget does not impart the same edge as a professional sharpening would and that may be true. However, I don't intend to shave with my knives and for demanding kitchen work they are about as sharp as one would need. I think Henckels has done it this time. This is a great sharpener!

This handy knife bar keeps cutlery within the chef’s reach above a busy prep station but still safely out of reach of little hands. The 20-inch bar is long enough to hold an entire collection of kitchen knives and is ¾ inch wide and 2 inches thick for supporting wider blades, such as cleavers. The bar is magnetic to securely hold knives, but is encased in 18/10 stainless-steel to lend an attractive accent to your kitchen. Screws for mounting the bar are included. --Cristina Vaamonde

Best quality magnetic strip I've seen.5
My knives are a crucial part of my kitchen and I want only the best for them, so I wanted to go with a magnetic strip.
Hiding your knives in a drawer is a shame, can be dangerous if they're just free floating in there, and can also dull them if they bang around with other items. Not good
Keeping knife blocks on your counter eats up counter space and is just bulky. Many times I have to guess which knife is in which slot too, and if I have knifes that don't fit in the block, or more knives...I end up with knives in the drawer or multiple blocks. Not good.
My knives are beautiful and I love having them displayed out in the open. It also makes for easy retrieval. I hung this strip up right up above where I work, so when I need to switch from my Chef's Knife to a Paring knife, I just reach up, grab the handle and there it is! Very easy, no having to fumble to open a drawer or guess which knife it is in the knife block.
Of all the magnetic strips I've seen, this one is the largest, heavy, durable, great styling, and has the best quality. My only want for it is to be bigger...although, if it were any longer, I would have a hard time finding a place to mount it, so I think just buying another one would be the way to go.
It doesn't have to just be for knives either. I have many steel items that I think would be perfect mounted on this strip. The possibilities are endless!
Bottom line, I would definitely recommend a magnetic strip as a way to store knives. I would definitely recommend this strip over the others if you care about quality and looks.
Easy to assemble, lovely to look at.4
This knife holder looks great in our modern kitchen. The magnetic strip is very strong and holds our heaviest butcher knives easily. Pulling the knives off a strong magnetic strip takes some getting used to, but I've already gotten to preferring it over pulling my knives from a drawer. It saves so much space in a litchen w/ limited counter space, I've had people come over and comment on what a handsome and practical piece it is,'
Absolutely perfect.5
I have an incredibly small kitchen that's just finishing a remodeling two years in the making. Since no walls were knocked out, utilizing every square inch of space is still a priority, and this knife rack does it in style.
But since the kitchen's so small, you might be wondering why I went for the bigger knife rack. That's cause the place I intended to put it is on a cabinet that butts up against the cooktop. The cabinet's the traditional 24 inches wide, so this rack centered perfectly in that space, and enabled me to toss the counterspace-eating knife block.
Stainless steel's a big component in this remodel, so this knife rack fits in perfectly. I put it up myself, so let me warn you - it's HEAVY. I drilled two holes at the right height, but for the life of me, I couldn't screw in the rack towards the backsplash. A hint you might helpful is to use masking or painters tape to tack up the center of it until you can drive the screws in (leave the easier screw out a bit so you have room to maneuver; when the back screw is in, you can tighten both.) See? All those hours watching home improvement shows weren't for naught!
The one thing I found a bit puzzling was the "S" design in the rack. I couldn't tell from the pictures if that was a recessed or raised design. Well, if you were wondering, let me tell you it's a cut-out S. At first I thought if it was raised, I'd only have enough room to store the knives between the raised design, but because it's just an incised figure, you can put as many knives on this thing as you can jam! (There are two magnets, the long, thin, horizontal strips that frame the S design.)
The knives are held firmly, but it's easy to remove them with little effort. I know some folks seem to be having a problem with it. I'm scarcely Superman, and I have no difficulty pulling them from the rack without beheading anyone.
If you have the space, go for the 20 incher. You'll save $20 over Amazon's suggested retail, and it's a better buy than the smaller model.
I highly recommend it, esp. if you want a design statement that adds to the appeal and space demands of a small kitchen.

Terrific knife sharpener5
My wife was given an expensive Furi knife as a gift. I didn't want this to be relegated to the bottom of the kitchen odd-and-ends drawer because I couldn't sharpen it properly. I have (or had) number of different sharpeners, all useless or difficult to use: tungsten carbide pull-through, traditional steel, can-opener &c. So I got the Ozitech because it's Furi's own sharpener.
It's brilliant and easy to use. Not only does it keep the Furi in good shape it did a terrific sharpening job on a lot of other knives I haven't used for years. A quality Victorinox boning knife is now razor-sharp and a pleasure to use. I resurrected a couple of cheap-and-nasty stainless steel Chinese knifes - even they are now useable. We tried the tomato test with the cheap carving knife - just pressed it flat. Ten strokes through the Ozitech and it slices it neatly and easily, and I went to on to carve the roast lamb with it later that evening. It might not hold an edge but with the Ozitech it's quickly restored with 3 or 4 strokes.
The Ozitech isn't in the bottom drawer. It sits next to the knife block on the bench ready to be used when required.
does what it's supposed to4
Tried this on my favorite but often dull chefs knife and after 4-6 strokes was very very sharp. Works great as promised. casing cheap so not sure how long that will last or if it will hamper it's operation. compact, stores well, would be great for motor home or other small kitchen. For $29, makes me wonder what the $99 version does that Amazon also carries. knocked a star off for the cheap plastic case.
works5
I bought this knife sharpener because I was tired of knives that would not cut & the vender I brought it from, The Handy House, told me that it worked and I had bought things from her before on her word. And it works. My knifes are old & dull. A few swips through the sharpener blade & I had a brand new knife & the price is also good.

Good quality for the price5
The knife block is made in Malaysia with typical hardwood. Nothing fancy. It's good for the price. What matters is that 19 slots, especially a slot for a cleaver that I really need it. It holds 2 santoku knives very well. The 8 steak knives slots are very useful that use to store paring and peeling knives instead. Also easy to acccess and grab the knives. It looks big in the picture and it is a lot bigger than my old standard block, but it doesn't take much more room since I put it in the corner. Happy that I bought it.
Excellent packing and shipping5
This knife block was very good quality, and was very well packed. I received it very shortly after I placed the order. I bought this for my daughter who requested one for her birthday present. I had a lot of time to research this on the Internet and found out a lot about knife blocks. One thing is that it's hard to find one without the knives included in the sale. The other is to find a high quality wood and large enough holes because I didn't know what sizes her collection included. I finally chose the one with the best wood (my son-in-law does a lot of wood restoration around their house), the largest one with the most and largest holes, and one with the least advertising on it so they could display it out on their counter where they wanted it. This served all purposes and she was very very pleased with it! I kept the receipt in case she wanted to return it, but she loved it and was using it the very next day.
excellent utility piece5
After years of storing knives in a drawer, putting fingers at risk in searching for the right one, and dealing with consistently dull or damaged cutting edges, I finally decided to "sacrifice" some counter space for a knife block. This one is perfect! My steak and utility knives fit in the front lower slots and are easily accessible. (However, my set of large steak-house style knives have blades that are too wide for the lower slots.) The upper portion of the block holds everything else, including wide-bladed vegetable knives and very long serrated blades like bread knives. The angle of the block is just right for the counter height, neither too high nor too low. The knives set well into the block and don't rattle about or risk spilling out onto the counter. The block is heavy enough that it never moves as I remove or return knives to it. It's great! Just as advertised.

Customer Reviews
Best knife set I've EVER seen for the price. WOW5
Let me start this review by stating that I already own several professional quality Wusthof Classic knives. I have researched kitchen knives extensively and know what to look for. This set, for the price, has no equal that I've seen (and believe me, I've looked!) I was skeptical when I saw a 16 piece, off-brand name set on sale during a Friday Sale for 1/2 what I'd pay for a Wusthof Classic single knife. I needed a new knife block, so I figured that for the price, that alone would be worth it even if the knives turned out to be not so great. I got them in the mail today and WHOA...was I surprised! Each kitchen knife has a full, substantial tang and integrated bolster...not that fake bolster that cheaper knives sport. The description also mentions that these are stamped, not forged. Well, they sure fooled me, because I've never encountered a stamped knife that looked like this. The other reviewer is correct, not mentioned in the description but included in the set is a hefty meat cleaver, also with a full tang/bolster...and I do mean hefty. I would estimate it weighs at least a pound and a half all by itself. The edges are sharp and even the sharpening steel is a well made, substantial piece of workmanship with a terrific, non-slip handle. The handles are wood, not resin, and are comfortable to hold.
If I had to say anything unkind about the set it would be that the knives might actually be too big and they are not quite finished as cleanly as a more expensive set would be. If you're a small person, like me, you might become fatigued more easily than with a lighter weight set. However, with that said, my husband absolutely loves these knives heft and size. So use that to your advantage ladies and get the hubby's to do your chopping! As far as finishing, where he handles and tang meet is not completely smooth. This is such a MINOR thing, I almost didn't mention it, but it in no way detracts from the functionality of the knives.
Finally, each knife is stamped with the word, "China" on it. If you have opinions about Chinese workmanship, then be assured that this isn't your typical Chinese product. I'm as almost as pleased with this set as I am with my Wusthof knives which cost upwards of $75 each. If you're just starting out, or if you're just looking for an amazing deal...you can't go wrong with this set!
UPDATE: After a month of using these knives almost daily, I find them to be still a pleasure to use. They don't show any signs of rust, but then I don't wash mine in a dishwasher. I hand wash them, immediately dry them and put them away.
I see some reviews that complain that they don't hold an edge, but I don't find this to be the case. The steel is a high carbon steel that I've found to be quite good at maintaining its edge. It's important to remember that a good set of knives are an investment that require user maintenance to retain their initial quality. Some tips on keeping ANY knife sharp and prolonging it's life are:
* Don't cut on overly hard surfaces like glass, ceramic or marble cutting boards, instead use wood, plastic or something like it with some `give. Hard surfaces will dull any blade very quickly, regardless of knife quality.
* Run the edge of your knife over the included steel a few times before you put it away or before you use it. This will keep it free of burrs and prolong it's edge. Search for tips online at knife stores for proper use of the steel too, improperly using a sharpening steel can be almost as bad as not using it at all.
* Have your knives professionally sharpened, twice a year if you use your knives frequently, or once a year if less often. The factory edge will not last forever and a professional sharpening will add years of life to your knives. You can find knife sharpening services in your phone book and many hardware stores offer this service. It's usually only a few $$ per blade for this service.
* Use the knife for its intended purpose. Don't use a filet knife or the serrated bread knife to cut hard veggies, use the chef's knife instead.
* Every so often, feed the wood on the handle by using mineral or linseed oil on them, or even a bit of lemon oil or furniture polish. This will prevent warping and splitting.
Too Good To Be True2
This set does make a great first impression but, before you buy, you should know what you're getting. I bought these as a gift for my mom and I wouldn't suggest buying these knives as a gift. They'll embarass you. The Amazon description is accurate, but what they don't say is substantial. The knives look great, and really look like a quality forged set. The packaging is your first hint that it isn't, though. They're shipped in the actual packaging, which is plain cardboard. The packaging is pretty good, but the plainness of it is reminiscent of those products bought in bulk quantities by flea market vendors. The only marking is a reminder that they're made in China. Inside, you find a pretty nice looking set, but the only documentation is an inkjet-printed, giftcard-style insert showing the Amazon cover-photo, a brief description and contents list. It also reminds you they're made in China, and that they're exclusive to Amazon (aka generic.) The actual knives also have the unusual generic-like quality of having no name printed on them. Even most cheap knives say something.
The main thing that attracted me to this set initially, is the completeness of the set. It has pretty much every knife that one might use on a daily basis. No more reaching into the drawer for a knife, unless it's the odd pseudo-knife like a grapefruit knife or cheese slicer. Also, all slots in the block are filled. This isn't a "starter" set.
The blades come with a pretty good initial edge. Even the cleaver would shave hair from my arm. The sharpening steel is pretty good, but the stainless used for the knives isn't the same quality of premium knives. It will take an experienced hand with the steel to get a decent edge again.
Now, for the really bad part. I almost thought the knives were forged rather than stamped, they look so good. Believe me however, they're not. In fact, the rivets aren't even riveted or welded, they're just glued. I noticed after only a few days, that two rivets were missing from one of the knives, and one from another. I looked around, and found all of them on the kitchen floor. The larger, chopping knives hadn't even been used yet. These were two of the smaller knivfes and no, they hadn't been in the dishwasher. How embarassing! I hope the knives never do get accidentally get run through the dishwasher. I'm afraid the knives might come completely apart.
If you get the set, plan to use them yourself and keep some glue handy. If you buy them as a gift however, make sure they're for someone you don't like anyway.
Wonderful product;great value5
I bought these knives a couple of weeks ago, and when they arrived I was pleasantly surprized. These are heavy, solidly constructed knives, and their finish is surprisingly good. They are well balanced, sharp and a pleasure to use. I tested their rust resistance by sprinkling water on them and leaving them in the sink for extended periods. There was no evidence of rust or discoloration. The set includes one item not listed in the Amazon discription, a cleaver. Also, the block is much nicer than those found with many other sets. With an additional $30 discount for opening an amazon credit card, and free shipping, the price can't be beat. They are cheap at many times the price.
